The Truth on the Moon - Vol. 1

It was one of the greatest technological advancements of the 20th century, and one of the most iconic feats of all time; the 1969 Apollo Moon Landing.

Along those lines, few conspiracy theories have received the amount of attention and television specials as the lunar landings.

Dwindling in popularity but still hanging by a thread, people like filmmaker Bart Sibrel have asserted that the American government was so threatened by Soviet advancement amidst the height of the Cold War, that officials fabricated the landing in a Hollywood studio. Quite a bit of photographic 'evidence' is used to back their claim - so much that it is impossible to tackle in just one blog post.

A favourite seems to be the famous, image of the American flag fluttering in the wind… like it's totally not bothered by the fact there's actually no air on the moon, and thus, no wind. Pretty damning evidence for some.

In actuality, the flagpole was intentionally designed outward, precisely so it wouldn't turn into a shapeless wad of fabric. The extension piece became stuck and the flag wrinkled because it had been folded - giving it the appearance of moving. Take a look at these shots of Buzz Aldrin. In the first, he is looking at the flag, and he begins to turn towards the camera in the second. The flag remains completely stationary.

  1. Hey Kelly, very neat blog topic. There are many interesting conspiracy theories out there from which you can critique. The moon landing has lots of controversy surrounding it.

My opinion is that the landing certainly did take place and there were and possibly still are Aliens and an alien moon base on the dark side of the moon. If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about, a google search will turn up some pretty intriguing stuff.

Anyway, I look forward to reading what other conspiracies you intend to critique. My interests include the Crop Circle Phenomenon, the Vimana discovered in the Afghanistan cave and of course the existence of the Sasquatch.

    Thanks for the read!

  2. This is very interesting. Like Kyle, I believe the moon landing was real. But unlike Kyle, I'm not so sure about alien life. However, I do believe that your blog topic is fantastic. I will definitely continue reading about your favourite conspiracy theories.

  3. I like that you chose to write a post on the moon landing, because I think space exploration and the Apollo program are fascinating topics. I recently read a book about the Apollo astronauts and re-watched the miniseries From the Earth to the Moon, which make me wish I would've been alive to see it all happen.

  4. When ever moon landing conspiracies are brought up it reminds me of this Mitchell and Webb skit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6MOnehCOUw
